Nick Peay, Andy Peay Grapes for Williams Selyem wines are grown in three different areas of the Peay Vineyard. The areas are named after the Pinot Noir clone planted: New 777, New Calera and New Pommard. The Peays began growing for Williams Selyem in 2001.
Vineyard Bio The Peay Vineyard is a no-till vineyard, with moderate leaf removal on the shade side and canopy interior. The cropload is adjusted annually as needed.
Personal Bio Nick Peay became interested in grape growing through an appreciation for fine wines, which began around the family dinner table. He graduated from Bowdon College in Brunswick, ME in 1988 and from the UC Davis Masters program in Viticulture/Enology in 1994. The family include younger brother Andy, sister Liz, their parents and Nick’s wife, Vanessa.
Nick Peay believes in sustainable agriculture practices resulting in a low impact on the environment, along with careful canopy and yield management. Both he and Andy are passionate and diligent in caring for this out-sized garden.
