Cellar Worker
Jose is a Sonoma County native, who was born and raised in Santa Rosa.
He was working at an auto-shop and studying Philosophy when he first started fermenting beer out of his friend’s garage at age 21. It was a chance meeting with a friend who was working harvest that cemented his passion for wine. Soon after, he was off chasing vintages around the world.
Jose has worked harvests in three countries aside from the US, in Australia New Zealand and France. He loved exploring the various wine varietals and terroir from different regions—Riesling from Clare Valley, Pinot Noir from Central Otago, and Malbec from Cahors. Though he enjoyed his time abroad, his passion for wine kept leading him back to his roots and to Sonoma County Pinot Noir.
When Jose joined the Williams Selyem team, his work with cars was a huge asset to the production team, as was his upbeat attitude and sense of humor. He recently enrolled in the Davis winemaker certification course to continue learning about and understanding the winemaking process.
When not at the winery, Jose can be seen at a local brewpub with friends, hitting golf balls at the range, getting up at an ungodly hour to watch the English Premier league, or reading philosophy.
