Winemakers Notes
Newer clonal plantings are now driving the aromas of ripe black cherries, honeysuckle blossom, sassafras and mineral. Those aromas then translate to concentrated flavors of maraschino cherries, strawberry/rhubarb pie, root beer, fresh spices and forest floor. This extremely feminine and complex wine is complemented by sweet, toasty oak tannin and vibrant acidity in the finish. These thin hillside soils have added an enormous amount of depth and complexity to the 2009 vintage wine. I anticipate seeing even greater vintages down the road.
